Dr. Fawzi baroud

FOUNDING DIRECTOR
UNESCO Chair in OER for Access and Success

Over a period spanning 25 years, Dr. Fawzi Baroud has been engaged in promoting technology as a pedagogical tool tied to meeting educational objectives and to the assessment of learning outcomes in higher education. Specialized in eLearning, systems management, mathematics and electrical engineering, he combines numerous areas of academic expertise to advance the use of technology across different content areas.

As Assistant Vice President for Information Technology at Notre Dame University – Louaize (NDU) in Lebanon, Dr. Baroud leads in the campus-wide planning and implementation of information technologies that support teaching and learning, including training faculty members to integrate educational technology in their teaching.

As champion of open education on campus, Dr. Baroud has made the integration of Open Educational Resources (OER) a key strategic goal of the University. Under his watch, NDU became an institutional affiliate of Creative Commons, and he is currently in the process of formulating policies for the successful use of OER in teaching and learning. He conducts seminars and hands-on workshops on OER and open licensing at leading Lebanese higher education institutions and has become a reference point on the subject. 

dr. kamal abouchedid

Dr. Kamal Abouchedid, has a Ph.D. in Education from the University of Manchester, U.K. He is a full-time faculty member in the rank of Professor at the Faculty of Humanities at Notre Dame University-Louaize (NDU). Currently, Dr. Abouchedid is the Director of the Center for Applied Research in Education (CARE) at the Faculty of Humanities. His research interests fall in the scope of quality assurance in higher education and citizenship education. 

dr. GEORGE ABDELNOUR

Dr. George Abdelnour, is former Chair of the Department of English and Translation at Notre Dame University -Louaize. Under his watch, the Department of English and Translation became the first academic unit at NDU to integrate OER in the teaching of English. Most recently, he was awarded an English language grant by the U.S. Embassy in Lebanon to continue pedagogical innovation in the field of OER. Dr. Abdelnour holds a B.A. and Ph.D. in Literature from Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut.
